Snaefellsnes Peninsula

On this route we will explore the National park of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, driving through lava fields along the coast and there will be many classic Icelandic photo opportunities on our way. We will make sure to visit most popular sites at the national park such as Arnarstapi and Djúpalónssand and go to the beautiful mountain Kirkjufell. Whether you are interested in bird life, black beaches, glaciers or history, you have come to the right place.

Snæfellsnes glacier is an active volcano which rises 1446 m above sea level. It has been an inspiration to many poets and writers such as
Juels Vern and our Nobel prize winner Halldór Laxness. Some believe it is one of the seven chakras in the world.

We will be hiking around beautiful old fishing village Arnarstapi. On our way we will enjoy the scenery, the magnificent lava formations, striking cliffs and gorgeous, rock formations, and breathing in the sea breeze is quite memorable. Good idea to have fish and chips here for lunch.

As we continue our journey we will see Lóndranga which are two Uniquely formed basalt columns The taller one measures 75 meters in height, and the lower stack rises to 61 meters. Then we stop at Djúpalónsandur, a black pearl beach. There we find four large, ‘lifting stones’, once used to measure the strength of fishermen, Fully Strong 154 kg, Half-Strong 100 kg, Weakling 54 kg and Bungler 23 kg. If a man wasn´t able to lift Weakling he was not strong enough to be a fisherman.

Last but not least we will stop at Kirkjufell a free standing 463 m high mountain. It is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Kirkjufell was one of the filming locations for Game of Thrones season 6 and 7, featuring as the "Arrowhead mountain" that the Hound and the company north of the Wall see when capturing a wight. Close to the mountain is the Kirkjufellsfoss, a beautiful waterfall.

In the summer it is possible to go to Sönghellir, the cave of songs. It got its name because of its echo. And it is optional to go to Vatnshellir cave an 8000 year old lava tube which reaches over 200 meters and goes 35 meters below the surface. Access fee to Vatnshellir is not included.

Our goal is to meet people’s wishes so changing a plan slightly is not a problem for us. We can offer extra stops on the way if you
like.

Book now and enjoy traveling around one of Iceland's most beautiful places in a comfortable way with us.
